I’ve clocked almost 100 hours and could easily enjoy that twice over again. This beautiful world will no doubt keep you captivated for hours. And of course, I had to make it to the top of the ranks in the Mercenary mini game.Īssassin’s Creed Odyssey is one of my favorite games… ever! The decisions you make, the romances you have (or not), the people you choose to help or hinder – everything has a place. Depending on who you’re fighting or what you’re trying to achieve, there’s an element of thought that goes into everything.
The game forces you to switch and change your loadout which I actually admire. From choosing abilities to upgrading equipment, collecting items to make your ship even more awesome to new horse skins, the interface just works. Yes there a few niggles that any game has, but Odyssey feels different. When I finished the game I still had a large list of quests that I just hadn’t got round to because I got distracted by something else! Lots of them have a special place in my memory for one reason or another which can often be hard to achieve in such a vast game.Īlthough I’ve completed the game and partook in an insane amount of side quests, I’m sure I’ve barely touched the surface regarding what’s on offer. Each area is full of life, with warring leaders and political undertones driving interactions with civilians, politicians, religious cults, soldiers and bandits. The player's actions have tangible consequences in the story, which helps add some meaning to a campaign that lasts more than 30 hours. "Odyssey" certainly doesn't suffer from a lack of content, featuring dozens of side quests, unique enemies, and mythical creatures spread across the Greek states. The visuals are good for a game with such a huge map and variety of areas, but pale in comparison to other big budget games released this year, like "Marvel's Spider-Man" and "Shadow of the Tomb Raider." The story isn't awful, but it's spread out over dozens of hours of gameplay and the open world format makes it feel in-cohesive. While I’m confessedly a big fan of the Assassin’s Creed (AC) series, it’s obvious that the franchise was suffering from a severe case of repetition fatigue. The RPG elements ae serviceable, but will occasionally force you to grind side quests to avoid being killed in one or two hits by an enemy that's a few levels higher.
